At Press reports on the koi carp bottle from the Imayotsukasa brewery, which has won a German Design Award 2018.
The sake is called Nishikigoi (錦鯉), after the fancy or brocade carp. (And if nishiki sounds familiar, it’s used in a lot of sake-specific rice variety names where it also means brocade.)
The gorgeous bottle, white with a metallic red pattern reminiscent of the pattern of a koi carp, was a Winner in the Excellent Communications Design Packaging category at the German-based international design competition.
The bottle has won a number of other awards, including a Japanese Good Design award, a bronze medal at the French Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, gold medal at the American The One Show, the German iF Design Award, Platinum/highest in category at the Italian A’ Design Award, gold medal in the UK FAB Award, Graphite in the D&AD Awards, Platinum in the Belgian Pentawards, Bronze in the Hong Kong Design for Asia Awards, and Top Awards Asia.
And the sake is a winner too! It scored a silver medal in the International Wine Challenge.
