The Mainichi newspaper reports on more sake taking to the air – this time the Izumo-Fuji brewery’s Ama no Murakumo (Clouds Obscuring the Heavens) being served on internal JAL flights.
The junmai daiginjō is the selected sake for March in first class. It’s made with Yamada Nishiki rice grown in Sada-cho, just outside Izumo city where the brewery is based, and water from the Hii River that runs through Shimane and Tottori prefectures. The name is that of the sword that appears in the legend of Yamata-no-Orochi.
Tōji Imaoka says he’s delighted the sake was chosen for First Class, and hopes that the sophisticated junmai daiginjō will be enjoyed with food. The sake will be available on domestic JAL flights for the month of March only. It is 16% ABV, with a 1.8 litre bottle costing JPY 10,000 and a 720 ml bottle JPY 5,000 (not including tax).
