Taste Translation: Annual Japan Sake Awards 2024

n another sign that deeper interest in sake is on the rise, major tour operator JTB have announced a 7-day, 6-night tour of sake breweries and more with a French-speaking guide.

The tour includes visits to five breweries – Kikumasamune, Kobe Shushinkan and Hakutsuru in Nada, Nadagiku near Himeji and Juhachi Zakari in Okayama, as well as the Shin-Nakano factory and a number of World Heritage sites such as Himeji Castle and the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome. There are also activities such as making your own Bizen ochoko. The tour is priced at EUR 3090 for a shared twin/double room, excluding flights, and runs in early February 2025 subject to enough people signing up. (Contact JTB Europe if you’re interested.)

There are a number of excellent tours focusing on sake already, but this is the first one I’ve seen from a large tour operator, targeting a specific non-English speaking country, and with visits to not only sake breweries but also a polishing machine maker. [Yes, I am jealous.]
