Niigata Prefecture-based FARM8, who developed Ponshu Guria (180 ml cups containing dried fruit, etc. for instant “sake cocktails”) and FER (lactic acid-fermented amazake cocktails), and operate the Sakepost sake-in-a-180-ml-pouch subscription service, polled their followers on the PonshuGuria X account to ask what sake gift they’d be happy to find in their stocking.
They received 625 valid responses, with 44.8% hoping for a tasting set with small amounts of several different sake, twice as many as the 19.8% who wanted a full bottle of a well-known sake–which would have been the safe choice not so long ago. The press release points to the result as demonstrating a shift in value from name recognition to more varied experiences, plus the lower risk of small quantities and fun of tasting and comparing.
The other options were sake chosen based on the receiver’s tastes (23.0%) and a stylish sake vessel set (12.3%).

Not sure how much you can take from the poll results as they were asking people who already follow an account that does tasting sets of sake in small quantities, but at least their supporters are loyal if nothing else.
