The Ryutsū News site has an article on a pop-up sake bar aimed at inbound tourists, with the added attraction of Kit-Kat.

Nestle Japan launched the Kit-Kat Umeshu Tsuru-ume on 18 September 2018. The new variety was developed by “producer” Hidetoshi Nakata, former member of the Japanese national football team.

The new Kit-Kat contains the carefully selected matured umeshu Tsuru-ume Suppai (sour), made with the renowned nanko plums grown in the Kii area of Wakayama Prefecture. The umeshu is powdered for use in the bar.

For anyone who couldn’t wait until the release date to try them out, the Kit-Kat Umeshu Tsuru-ume were available at the CRAFT SAKE WEEK@KITKAT BAR aimed at inbound tourists, which was open 13 to 24 September 2018. The pop-up bar was hosted in the CITAN hostel/cafe/bar/restaurant in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

The bar also offered two original cocktails to pair with the new Kit-Kat, both developed by bartender Rogerio Igarashi Vaz from Bar TRENCH, ranked 16 out of Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2018.

  1. Kii Tonic (JPY 1,000)
  2. Suppai Colada (JPY 1,200)

The pop-up also offered a selection of 16 umeshu and sake chosen by Nakata himself, accompanied by food pairings from chefs at well-known restaurants.
