Taste Translation: Annual Japan Sake Awards 2024

Bottling of a sake blended from contributions by every brewery in Shiga prefecture began on 8 September 2022 in Higashiomi City. Although billed as part of efforts to revive consumption of sake after the pandemic, the Shiga Brewers Association (滋賀県酒造組合, shiga-ken shuzō kumiai) has actually been blending junmai from all its members for the last 7 years.

Sake blended on 7 September was loaded into a 2 meter long tank and bottled under the watchful eyes of around 20 representatives from different breweries.

The Shiga Brewers Association described this year’s blend as aromatic and hōjun (芳醇, aromatic and rich). Association chairman Yoshimichi Kita (喜多良道, president of Kita Shuzo, makers of Kirakucho, also head of the Higashiomi City Tourism Association) hopes the blend will lead lots of people to discover Shiga and its breweries, and also boost consumption. The sake went on sale in the prefecture from 17 September, at JPY 580 for 300 ml.
